If you weren't at the first SLU home football game you missed out on something special. The Lions won their first season opener football game since 2009! All I could think of while I was watching the game was how this wasn't the same Southeastern football team Hammond was used to. I mean 45 points, come on! These college athletes were prepared for battle and went into the game with a winning mentality. No matter how many previous seasons they found themselves hanging their heads in defeat, they walked on to that field proclaiming that it is a new season. But what if they had come out of the locker room with all their past losing seasons on their minds? They probably would not have put on the performance they did, right? Sometimes in our christian walk we make that exact mistake. We associate way more with where we have been than where we are going. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." This scripture tells us that we don't have to relate to that person we used to be. It says if ANYONE is in Christ, he is a new creation. This verse isn't talking to the elite, to just the pastors and evangelists. When it says anyone it means that anyone who has taken up their cross to follow Jesus is made a brand new person. You are not that same person that messed up in the past. You are not that person who never felt accepted. You are made new, and like Romans says, you are more than a conqueror. 2013 is going to be a year full of breaking chains for all of Southeastern's campus, not just the football team. All it takes is getting to know your word and understanding that what is before you is far greater than what is behind you. So let's start this semester off with a chain-breaking, insecurity forgetting, veil tearing, more than a conqueror mentality. This is a new chapter, new beginning, new season. This is YOUR season.
